This Privacy Policy explains how ChimeBuddy (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile app and related services.
Important: ChimeBuddy is not an emergency service and is not a replacement for 911 or local emergency response.
Information we collect
We may collect the following categories of information:
- Account & profile information
- Name, email/username, password (stored securely), facility association (if used), profile details you choose to provide.
- User content
- Messages, posts, and other content you create in the app (including attachments you choose to send).
- Device & app information
- Device identifiers, operating system version, app version, and diagnostic data needed for reliability and security.
- Notifications
- Push notification token(s) used to deliver notifications (for example via OneSignal or similar service).
- Location (optional; only if enabled)
- If you enable location features, we may collect location information to provide location-based functionality (e.g., campus geofence alerts).
- You can disable location at any time in the app settings and/or your device settings.
- Third-party content services (optional)
- If you use GIF features, searches and selections may be sent to GIPHY to return GIF results.
How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide and maintain app features (messaging, games, help requests, reminders)
- Improve safety features when enabled (such as geofence-based alerts)
- Deliver notifications you opted into
- Prevent abuse and secure accounts
- Provide customer support and troubleshoot issues
- Comply with legal obligations
How we share information
We may share information:
- With service providers who process data on our behalf (hosting, push notifications, analytics, GIF search)
- With your facility administrators/staff when needed to provide the service (for example, help request routing)
- For legal and safety reasons (to comply with law, enforce policies, or protect users)
We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention
We keep information only as long as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, and maintain security. You may request deletion as described on our Delete Account page.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Your choices
- Update certain profile information within the app.
- Control notification permissions in your device settings.
- Enable/disable location features at any time.
- Request account deletion and/or data deletion (see Delete Account page).
Children’s privacy
ChimeBuddy is not intended for children under 13.
